Horse owners often have to abdicate hoof care to the professionals without the knowledge to advocate for their horse.
It's time to fix that!
This course will teach you what you're looking at when you examine your horse's hooves, and how to assist your hoof care provider in creating the healthiest possible hoof. This is an excellent place to start if you wish to trim your own horses, or if you are interested in pursuing a career in hoof care. Small class size ensures maximum one on one learning and follow up instruction is available after the course!
Friday Evening: Theory
We will learn about the structure and function of the parts of the hoof; and discuss various pathologies and functional abnormalities including thin soles, hi/low syndrome, flares, contraction, cracks, laminitis/founder, and navicular. We will also discuss nutrition for the hoof.
Saturday: Hands on trimming and dissection of cadaver hooves.
Sunday: Hands on trimming on live horses

You aren't required to have your own tools for the clinic, but these are the ones you'll be using and the brands and types I recommend. Your basic starter tool kit is a rasp and a left and right hoof knife, as well as a sturdy hoof pick and a wire brush (the dollar store often has those). These are the tools I use and the places you can find them:
